No easy solution in sight
The college is facing a $3.6 million deficit and taking care of it will, quite literally, be a balancing act for central administration. The harsh truth is that LCC needs to both scale back on expenses and increase revenue, according to Chief Financial Officer Greg Morgan. It’s no use blaming the myriad construction projects for the shortfall, either. Funds that are being utilized for construction on buildings 10 and 12 or the new Downtown Campus can’t be diverted elsewhere.

Feel like listening to some jazz? How about some classical music? There’s no shortage of activity on campus this weekend, weather permitting. The Peace Center is hosting a renowned author and myriad concerts are planned in the Performance Hall, including some Black History Month celebrations.

Funding denied to Planned Parenthood
The U.S. House of Representatives has voted to cut funding for Planned Parenthood, a family planning agency utilized by many for its low-cost care. It seems some folks are under the impression that the institution is an enabler of risky behavior when it couldn’t be further from the truth. The right’s unabashed support for maintenance of the defense budget begs the question: what’s more important, personal health or guns? Unfortunately, it looks like the latter.

Lady Titans are going to Kennewick
The women’s basketball team clinched a playoff spot in the NWAACC championship tournament after downing the Riverhawks last weekend. Even though the ladies lost their nationally-renowned winning streak at home against Clackamas, we have high hopes for their performance in the tournament.
