The ground is rumbling beneath our feet, poised to explode and burst forth anytime now are a billion daffodils, crocus, iris and more, shouting their colorful announcement of spring. Spring Break is said to be a time to “do nothing before we do something again.”

Nap like a cat. Stare at the sky. Then take in some refreshing new things.

Here’s some of what’s coming up:

MoonAlice with The Lost Creek Gang performs March 11 at the WOW Hall. Longtime San Francisco musicians who have played with Jefferson Starship, Phil Lesh & Friends and Bruce Hornsby, MoonAlice have a great time onstage. Playing roots, rock, rhythm and blues, with a surprise or two thrown in. Lost Creek, featuring Eli Babbs and the amazing guitarist Riggs Fulmer, open the show. Admission is $8-$10.

Americana/bluegrass showstoppers The Punch Brothers play the McDonald Theater March 16. Five masters of the string — upright bass, mandolin, fiddle, banjo and guitar — take the audience on a timeless journey of covers and originals. Featured player Chris Thile “changed the mandolin forever” while in Nickel Creek. $18.

It’s free, and it’s funky: A little short on cash? Don’t let it stop you. Great things happen at the Funk Jam at Diablo’s Downtown Lounge Thursdays at 9 p.m. If you don’t go, you’ll never know.

First it was Mango, now it’s “Rango” — The highly-anticipated animated film “Rango” is now in theaters. Starring Johnny Depp as a chameleon, he and other hilarious creatures of the desert play out a Western tale of misadventure. Directed by Gore Verbinsky, (Pirates of the Caribbean) the buzz is all about the animation. This is Industrial Light & Magic’s first foray into animated feature films. Actors played out the scenes in the studio while voicing the film, another first. Said to be a little long, but I predict it will dazzle.
