The official dates for the upcoming spring ASLCC student government elections are set for April 30 to May 3.

The positions available are president, vice president, treasurer and multicultural program coordinator. Also, 10 at-large Senate seats and four at- large Student Finance Board seats are available.

Candidates are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and be enrolled in six graded credits at time of election. Presidential and vice presidential candidates run as a joint ticket. Presidential candidates must have completed 18 credits in the past three terms.

Current ASLCC President Mario Parker-Milligan will be moving to the UO campus to continue his education.

“When the time comes I’ll have advice” for the in- coming president, he said.

Along with his advice, Parker-Milligan will be leaving behind a transition binder he created for the newly elected president.

“All I got was a sheet,” he said, referring to the difficult transition he faced after his election as presi- dent in 2010.

Senate and Student Finance Board seats can be held by anyone for as many times as they are elect- ed.

The president, vice-president and treasurer positions cannot be held by the same candidate for more than two years.

Current Vice President Jenny Lor will be chairing the Elections Committee for the spring elections. She said her job as chair for the elections commit- tee is to “make sure people running know the rules and follow them.”

Lor said she would not be running for another position.

Students need to be involved, Lor said, especially with the amount of money ASLCC controls.

Lor said it’s important for students to not only vote, but also to care about the process because “once they vote, they become more invested in who they are voting for and aware of the student money involved.”

Each spring, elections provide opportunities for new students to become involved in the ASLCC and for past members to try something new.

“I’m thinking of running for campus events director, but I’m interested in so many things,” Sen. Vic- toria Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez volunteered for ASLCC for two years before becoming a senator last year.

Tracy Weimer, current treasurer, will be running for her second year as treasurer.

“I stepped in when the previous treasurer quit,” Weimer said.

She said she would be looking out for students’ best interests when the LCC Board of Education talks about adjusting the student activity fee.

“We have to protect our students to help our students,” Weimer said.

Applications will be available on March 12 and are due April 13 by 12 p.m.
