Led by LCC Director of Choral Activities Matt Svoboda, the 30 members of the Lane Chamber Choir will give a free concert, singing French composer Gabriel Fauré’s “Requiem” backed by organ and violin.
According to the press release for the event the requiem “emphasizes light and eternal rest through subtle shifts in dynamics and harmony.” Fauré saw death “as a happy deliverance, an aspiration towards the happiness of the hereafter, rather than as a painful passing away,” a vision captured in the music.
The Lane Chamber Choir performs choral and chamber music throughout Oregon, sometimes with guest artists. Various soloists will be featured in the requiem performance.
Although the concert is free, donations for supporting the Lane Chamber Choir program will be accepted.
The concert is scheduled for Monday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at Central Presbyterian Church 555 E. 15th Ave. in Eugene.
